Wind damage caused most of the losses from Isaias, according to a report from Moody’s RMS Event Response. Losses from storm surge and precipitation-induced inland flooding, including those covered by the National Flood Insurance Program, are expected to total about $250 million, Moody’s RMS said. Forecast losses include property damage across residential, commercial, industrial, automobile and watercraft lines, as well as business. Strong wind shear disrupted the storm’s structure as it approached landfall, weakening the wind field, according to the report. “As a result, we expect the overall extent and severity of insured losses from this event to be manageable for the market,” Jeff Waters, director – North Atlantic hurricane models, at Moody’s, said in the report. Many exposures hit by Hurricane Isaias were also affected by other storms including hurricanes Sally and Zeta in 2020, and Helene in 2024, which led to widespread roof repairs and replacements, the modeling firm said. “We expect these efforts to have improved the risk profile and structural resilience of the region’s building stock to hurricane winds, especially for an event like Isaias,” said Raj Vojjala, managing director – modeling and analytics. Hurricane Isaias was the ninth named storm and the first hurricane of the 2026 North Atlantic hurricane season, making landfall as a Category 2 hurricane near Destin, Florida, on Oct. 10. On Thursday, Karen Clark & Co. estimated losses from Isaias would be $3 billion. The estimate includes privately insured damage to residential, commercial, and industrial properties and automobiles, as well as business interruption, but excludes boats, offshore properties, and NFIP losses. Earlier this week , Cotality, formerly known as CoreLogic, estimated the storm caused $2 billion to $3 billion in losses, while Verisk estimated $1 billion to $2 billion.
