Ned Lamont has approved the creation of a task force charged with studying how administrative processing, medical provider availability and insurer authorization requirements prolong workers compensation claims for select first responders. Mr. Lamont on Tuesday signed H.B. 5385, which creates the eight-member task force to “study undue delay in workers compensation claims by police officers and firefighters.” The task force will consist of six members appointed by lawmakers, the Labor Commissioner and the chair of the Workers Compensation Commission. The bill does not require specific representation for insurance companies, first responders or other system users. The task force will study issues that include delays caused by administrative processing of first responder claims, medical provider availability, scheduling limitations and insurer authorization requirements, and must submit a report with findings and recommendations by Jan. 1, 2027. The bill had unanimous support in both chambers of the General Assembly. WorkCompCentral is a sister publication of Business Insurance. More stories here .
