Ms. Shokrai joins the artificial intelligence company after more than a decade at Google parent Alphabet, where she most recently was head of actuarial, analytics and systems, business risk and insurance, and head of business risk and insurance for Google Cloud. Before joining Alphabet in 2018, she held various actuarial roles at Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance and Willis Towers Watson. Palo Alto, California-based Ms. Shokrai also led the Google team that partnered with Allianz and Munich Re to develop a risk protection program designed to address liabilities associated with artificial intelligence. The initiative received a Business Insurance Innovation Award in 2022. In the new role, Ms. Shokrai will work to strengthen Anthropic’s risk management and insurance capabilities and work with the insurance industry to develop AI-related coverages, according to her LinkedIn post announcing the move. “Anthropic’s mission to safely navigate the transition to transformative AI is what drew me to the team … As we advance toward more powerful AI, putting risk front and center is critical for the entire ecosystem,” Ms. Shokrai wrote. Ms. Shokrai was a 2022 Business Insurance Women to Watch honoree .
