Technologies that provide direct physical support — such as exoskeletons and robotics — were most strongly associated with symptom reduction, while monitoring tools like wearable sensors and computer vision systems helped workers identify ergonomic risks and adopt safer behaviors, according to the study. Researchers surveyed more than 400 non-managerial workers across industries, including construction, manufacturing and health care, and found that more than 80% of respondents said such technologies either reduced MSD symptoms or had no negative impact on their condition. Nearly 70% of workers surveyed reported experiencing job-related musculoskeletal symptoms, highlighting the prevalence of strain-related injuries in physically demanding roles. The study also found that outcomes improved when employees were involved in selecting and implementing the technologies, underscoring the importance of worker engagement in safety initiatives. Researchers said the findings suggest that properly deployed injury prevention tools can play a meaningful role in reducing workplace injuries and improving job satisfaction, particularly in industries with high rates of musculoskeletal disorders.
