Mr. Eckert, who is due to step down as CEO of Bermuda-based Conduit Re on March 1, 2027, will join Willis Re after completing his contractual obligations, the broker said in a statement. It did not provide a start date. His appointment comes as Willis Re expands the reinsurance brokerage that Willis Towers Watson and private-equity firm Bain Capital launched after WTW announced in late 2024 that it would reenter the treaty reinsurance broking business. WTW sold its previous Willis Re business to Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. for $3.25 billion in 2021 after its planned merger with Aon collapsed. Last month, the new Willis Re agreed to buy BMS Group’s U.S. reinsurance division, including BMS Intermediaries and BMS Capital Advisory and an associated London-based team. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, will give Willis Re an operational presence in the United States. Mr. Eckert began his career as a reinsurance broker at Benfield Group in 1986 and later founded Benfield & Rea Investment Trust, which raised capital to support Lloyd’s of London and insurance company underwriting capacity and was subsequently relisted as Brit Insurance. He co-founded Conduit Re in 2020, raising $1 billion in an initial public offering. He initially served as executive chairman and became CEO in 2025. Conduit Re said Tuesday that former Aspen Group president Christian Dunleavy will succeed Mr. Eckert as CEO.
