Then it became a risk-management decision: “A combination of the Knicks playoff game and increased activity in the city with the President in town” forced the organization to postpone the event on cybersecurity. In other words, the risk managers looked at Manhattan, saw basketball fever, presidential security, traffic snarls and general Gotham-level unpredictability and decided the most prudent risk mitigation strategy was: not today. The event, sponsored by Hunton and Sigma7, had been scheduled for Hunton’s New York office and was to feature a discussion on cyber risk, insurance and recovery. Instead, attendees received a real-time lesson in operational disruption, venue logistics and the eternal truth that no event plan survives contact with midtown traffic. The chapter said it is working to lock in a new date and will provide an update once confirmed.
