They would just like to know whether it has adult supervision. A survey commissioned by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America found that 61% of consumers are more likely to choose an agent who uses AI and other modern technology for faster, more personalized service. But 87% said having a dedicated human agent remains important. The national survey, conducted by Mfour Data Research among 400 U.S. adults ages 25 and older with home, auto and/or business insurance, found that consumers see value in AI for comparing quotes, answering general questions and providing claim status updates. When accidents, storms or significant claims enter the conversation, however, just 6% said they would rely on AI alone. A chatbot may be fine for “Where’s my policy?” The audience thins considerably at “Where’s my roof?” Even for routine questions and updates, the humble phone call held its own: It was the top communication choice at 28%, ahead of email at 23% and text messages at 21%. And consumers’ biggest concern about AI’s role in insurance over the next five years? Losing access to a trusted insurance professional, cited by around a third of respondents.
