Acrisure sued Stephan Plotzker in a Michigan federal court on Wednesday, one day after he resigned from the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based brokerage. Mr. Plotzker sold his firm, Bridgeport Insurance Brokers, for “millions of dollars” in 2015, according to the suit. Acrisure claims that Mr. Plotzker violated a noncompetition provision of his employment agreement, which he signed as a condition of the Bridgeport purchase, and that he intends to violate a customer nonsolicitation provision. On Tuesday, Acrisure sued Hakop “Jack” Papazyan, also in Michigan federal court, five days after he resigned. Mr. Papazyan sold his business, Gain Insurance Agency, to Acrisure in 2020, also for “millions of dollars,” the suit states. Acrisure claims Mr. Papazyan violated the noncompetition provision of the purchase agreement and employment agreement with him. On Thursday, Howden U.S. announced it had hired Patrick Thomas, a former managing partner at Acrisure, as managing director of its trucking business. About 35 other Acrisure employees will join him. Los Angeles-based Mr. Thomas will oversee the national build-out of Howden’s trucking business, the brokerage said in a statement. London-based Howden established a U.S. retail operation last year, hiring hundreds of staff from rival firms and triggering a wave of lawsuits from competitors, including Marsh, Alliant and Brown & Brown. Howden was not named in the most recent lawsuits.
