Kelsey Michelle Moore was charged with insurance fraud and three counts of forgery after investigators alleged she falsely claimed that a failed water heater damaged clothing, shoes and other belongings, according to a report by WYFF-TV in Greenville, South Carolina. Authorities said Ms. Moore submitted a claim to USAA that included a purported $2,231.40 receipt from Uptown Dry Cleaning. There were just two wrinkles in the claim: The property manager said the water heater had not failed, and investigators found that the dry-cleaning company did not exist, the station reported. Ms. Moore received $4,916.58 from USAA through the allegedly fraudulent claims, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. She was booked into the Greenville County Detention Center. The South Carolina Department of Insurance, which requested the investigation, will prosecute the case.
